Weekly
Update 01/23/2022
Wow,
what wonderful games this weekend! Every one was very exciting. Of
course, the one win I wanted the most didn’t happen. But it was a
great ride. And I really loved watching the cold in Green Bay, like
last week’s weather in Buffalo. I’ve also been watching the
Australian Open and it’s been nice seeing Jessica Pegula win her
matches.
In
other boring news:
Kay
did not have to work on Monday, so I met her and two other friends
for lunch. I hadn’t seen Beverly or Beth for a long time, and it
was good to catch up with them again.
I
had two zoom meetings this week. Davenport House invited docents to
sign in for an update about the renovations. Things are moving along
quite well, and the offices, admissions, and gift shop hope to move
across the lane to the Kennedy Pharmacy sometime in February. Who
know? Perhaps when I get back to giving tours, I will have to make
major adjustments. I know it’s coming, and I’m not prepared, but
I will have to adjust. I joined the Oglethorpe Library book club to
share my opinions about A Paris Apartment. While I did not
like the book at all, I thoroughly enjoyed the discussion. The
librarian also made it very interesting as she had photos and
information about the real apartment that provided the story.
I
have not met my friends for Wednesday happy hour on Wilmington Island
in many weeks. I don’t know if I’ll have a chance to get
together with them again for many more weeks, depending on how things
go at DH. I decided that this might be a good week to do that. It
was nice to be with all those ladies again. Some were telling
adventures of travels taken – Jan had been on a cruise where she
and her husband got COVID, and Janet had visited family in Tennessee.
Some just had stories about vaccinations and weather back up north
where many are from. But it was just enjoyable to be there.
Thursday,
my Green Square friends met at the Green Truck Restaurant. It was in
the 70s that day, and we could eat our “grass-fed, all natural,
hormone free, beef” burgers accompanied by produce from area farms
on the patio outside. That was a wonderful treat to be in the
sunshine. When I told my friends about the white fake ficus I wanted
to buy, they convinced me that I needed it. I stopped to buy it on my
way back home. I don’t need more STUFF, but this really is lovely.
The
good weather didn’t last. On Friday I went downtown because I
wanted to do a little research in the Georgia Historical Research
Center that just opened this week after being closed for renovations
for almost three years. Driving into the city, it was cloudy and
gray, just like every day all winter in Rochester. Saturday, I
turned on the heat in my apartment. I try to keep it off as much as
I can, as I’m usually not so uncomfortable that I can’t just put
on a sweater or cover myself with a throw. Even I was uncomfortable
when it was 64 inside.
Adrian
is wonderful. A photo was posted of him this week at daycare,
working on an art project. He’s six months old! Maybe the craft
gene has been inherited from great grannie.
