Weekly Update 9/11/2022

When was the last time you saw this?  Gas for less than $3 a gallon!  And, as I complained a week ago, the Parkers right down the street was selling gas for $3.39. It makes no sense.

I signed a new lease on the apartment. I’ll be here for another year. The rent didn’t increase too much, either. I was expecting a big jump and I was surprised, but not disappointed.

Wednesday was DH, and then I went back in the evening for a CMA kickoff there. Part of the evening program was a tour of the raised basement level, where the construction continues to reinterpret it as it may have looked in the 1820s (but we still need electricity for lighting and a/c for the entire building, so it won’t be EXACTLY accurate). It was my first time in that part of the building since the offices, gift shop, and admissions moved, so I was very interested.

In honor of the start of the NFL season, I made a HUGE pot of chili on Thursday. I ate some before the game, and then divided the rest up to freeze. I’m going to have enough chili for the whole season.

The Bills looked great!  They lost a little focus in the second quarter, but were back on track for the second half. I must admit I was a little worried - playing the reigning Super Bowl champions on the road for the season opener.  But they looked really, really good, both on offense and defense.

The college football games were also big wins, both UGA and SU.  Another great win was Georgia Southern over Nebraska.  For the tennis, I was excited that Francis Tiafoe was able to get as deep into the tournament as he did, and he played amazing well in all his matches, even the loss.  The women were interesting, too. It’s going to be a long time before there’s any more tennis on tv for me to watch.

RIP Queen Elizabeth. At age 96, her death was not a surprise, although I was beginning to think she’d live forever. I was only 5 years old when she became Queen, and she’s the only British monarch I’ve ever known. It seems very strange to read news now about the King. I’m re-watching episodes of The Crown, especially the early ones when she first became Queen. A long, dignified life ends, and I hope she is at peace. (This is a craft that was made years ago, before Dave and Lisa moved to Wales.  From time to time, Dave would challenge us to make a craft and this was from one of those times. It's moved with me for three times, and I still have it.)
