Weekly Update 1/8/2019

This blog is not on schedule, but I’ve not been near my computer for a few days. And everyone knows why.

But a few things before I even start with The Wedding.

New Year’s Eve was quiet, and that’s how I like it. Of course I was up at midnight; I’m always up at midnight. But turning an old year into a new year no longer has the possibilities that it did when I was younger. So I watched some tv, and ate the wonderful hoppin’ john and greens that June made for me.

New Year’s Day, I was expecting that Rachel B (not Rachel F, I have two wonderful Rachels who call me Grannie) and her boyfriend would be stopping as they drove from Disney back to Rochester. They toured around Savannah on their own for a while, and then came to stay the night with me. Just like me, they had to be in Rochester for The Wedding, so they left early the next day. It was a nice chance for me to meet Adam and the get caught up with Rachel.

Thursday, my flights were delayed. Marcia and Andy expected to pick me up at the ROC airport at 2:30, and I got there about five hours late. They did not wait at the airport all that time, but they did have more wait than was appropriate. We went back to their house, and I enjoyed the company of these great friends. I spent the night with them and they drove me to Ishy’s house after a nice lunch.

Friday night, I had plans to meet former co-workers for a fish fry. One thing I miss about Savannah is the great Friday Night Fish Fries that I used to eat weekly. Shrimp and grits are a nice substitute, but sometimes a nice beer battered piece of haddock is something I crave. So I met with them and we visited for a long time. Things at City Hall have only gotten worse. Kathy is the only one of us who has not retired, so she had stories to share. When I got back to Ishy’s house, Allen had arrived, and it was good to be together with them.

And then it was Saturday, and time for The Wedding. This has been coming for almost two years, and always seemed to far into the future. And all of a sudden, it was here. I’ll add a lot of photos, so you can see how lovely Sarah looked.

Sarah chose the weekend of the Wild Card Playoffs for her wedding day. So, what can be done? As soon as we could, we changed our clothes and went to a bar to watch the first game. There were maybe 12 people in this bar, and I knew 2 of them! What are the chances?

The next day, we drove to Waterloo, NY (home of Memorial Day, an interesting aside) which is half way between Rochester and Syracuse, where the Flynns live. I needed to see them, since I was so close and I didn’t get to see them at the wedding. We met at a nice diner, which was grand. The food was wonderful, and the service was great, they did not rush us and our waitress even came out to offer to take pictures of us all!

And then it was over. The long awaited wedding is now in the past, no longer in the future. I've known since the day Sarah was born that this day was coming, but it came too fast. I wish the bride and groom much happiness. And I’m very happy to be back home in Savannah.
