Weekly Update 8/18/2019

I gave myself a couple of weeks to pout and feel sorry for myself (and the society in which we must live), but I’ve climbed out of it now.

Part of what I felt was important was to get back into my routine. While I never did give up on the obligations I have already set on my schedule, like DH and BC, I got back to the pool this week, I went back to the lecture series at TLC, and back to The 90. And I did a lot of online shopping for the upcoming travels.

On Friday, I went to Conrad Aiken’s birthday party (he wasn’t there; he died in 1973) at The Book Lady, a wonderful used book store that is my go-to book place, particularly for local books. I have been to a couple of lectures on Aiken’s life, but this was a reading from his novel Ushant. Zip – right over my head. I cannot understand anything he writes (he rates up there with Flannery O’Connor as local authors I just do not get). But I sat there and listened and tried to act as if I actually belonged with this group of intellectuals. I think I fooled no one, but it was an interesting evening. And they had wine.

On my way home after closing BC on Sunday evening, I stopped at a chicken restaurant for take out. It has gotten great reviews and is close by, so naturally I wanted to try it out. It was very tasty, but too greasy. I’ve been eating Lean Cuisine for too long!

  1. Glad you got out and about more - staying busy keeps me from thinking too much about the sad situations in my family and in our world. Been busy since we got back on Monday evening - cleaned out RV and stored it Tues, dr appt for Fred (follow up next Thursday), supper with different groups of friends Wed and again Fri, $20 tickets for Orange Beach concert on Sat night (Little Big Town with opener by Midland)- hot but fun, took myself to The Lion King Sunday afternoon, worked on photos most of today, Monday. Nothing as educational as you did, but kept me busy.
