No blog this week. I'm too upset.
How many more of these mass shootings will it take until the leaders of this country (or leader wannabes) stand up and act? Until a presidential debate consists not only of sniping at each other and labeling one another, but proposes some real solutions? Until all the candidates say no to the NRA, 2nd amendment proponents (this is a well armed militia? Shooting citizens? Think again what the amendment is for) and lobbyists and refuse the funding from organizations like these to their political coffers? Until members of all parties put the safety and well being of schoolchildren, festival goers, shoppers and bar hoppers above their petty partisan politics? I can't get on an airplane with a tube of toothpaste - they've made flying safe for me. I can't touch my phone if I'm driving - they've made that safe. Grammar school children need to carry see-through backpacks - no first grader will be bringing a loaded gun to school and hiding it (no first grader has been a mass murderer). Anyone who has a child or grandchild or neighbor who goes to school has to be fearful. Anyone who goes to a concert or festival has to wonder about who else is there. Anyone who shops is not safe. Anyone who enjoys a drink a bar is not safe. All the marches, rallies, thoughts and prayers are getting nowhere. Action is needed, but those powerful enough to act abdicate that responsibility. WHY ISN'T SOMETHING BEING DONE.? AND NOW?
Very well said!! I am not only upset but feeling very helpless- hopefully changes can be made at the ballot box!!!
