Weekly Update 10/13/2019

I got a nice package and a smile from KC this week. Dave and Kerry sent me cereal. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it was great to get that package.  And the post office got it to me!  Reminders of past glory days with Kelly Krunch and Flutie Flakes came rushing back.  On the other hand, the Chiefs haven't won a game since this was sent.  I'm supertitious.

October 9 is a big day in Savannah history – the anniversary of the Battle of Savannah, a horrible loss for American and French forces during the Revolutionary War. Each year, I try to go to the event that commemorates the battle. It’s always a struggle for me because it begins at 7 am, and it’s the only day of the year when I have to get up so early. BHS participates by donating a wreath to be displayed at the monument in honor of the men who died at the battle. I had saved last year’s wreath, and reworked it with flowers from the Dollar Store to save a little money for BHS, and I think I did ok; my craft skills are still evident, even when it doesn’t involve a toilet paper roll. One thing different about this year’s service was Casimir Pulaski was riding a horse, as he would have been during the battle.

I got out my Halloween décor this week. And that meant I needed to move all my bills stuff into the blue bedroom. It’s like a shrine in there, but I like it.

Saturday, before the horrible UGA game, I went to the firehouse on Wilmington Island. They held their annual open house, with activities and games for families. I’m not too interested in that, but it was fun to see the little kids wearing plastic fire helmets, and looking in awe at the huge fire engines. I did thank a few of the men for all they do to make me safe, and then I just left.
