Weekly Update 5/7/2017

It's amazing! I didn't even have one lecture to go to all week!

I had to give a tour at BC, but it wasn't my usual one that I do for tourists. This was a group of SCAD students, and the professor had requested that I focus less on history (but not to totally ignore it, of course) and more on the statues themselves: their beauty, the symbolism, and the stories they tell. OK, then. I can do that, I guess. There are a few monuments that tell poignant stories (Nicolson, who drowned at Tybee Island, and Rogers, who was 19 years old when he was killed in a Civil War battle), and I tried to point them out. I actually know quite a bit about the symbolism, and can find examples throughout the cemetery. And i sincerely think there is much beauty in Bonaventure. I think I did OK.

Wednesday, I went out to The Landings (a posh, gated community on Skidaway Island) to watch some of the Savannah Challenger Tennis. It's a USTA event that is held annually, and I always try to get there for one day of the tournament. The two matches I watched were one-sided and not exciting, and over too soon, but I enjoyed then anyway.

then some doubles

Saturday was the annual Derby Day luncheon for the Lunch Bunch. We all get dressed up with hats (and this year we added gloves) and meet for a wonderful lunch at The 90. The hats are amazing. Most of us, myself included, find our creations at the Goodwill Stores, but some talented ladies make their own, including little roses or horses on them.
