Weekly
Update 1/19/2020
This
week was wonderful weatherwise. We had two days that reached the
80s. There were actually people sitting poolside at MP, working on
their tans. Not me, but it was not that hard to get out and walk
when it’s so nice. I think we’re in for a change this coming
week.
Last
week, when I worked to de-junk my office, I also purged my book
shelves. I have a lot of books that I’ve read, and more that I
will never read. I have collected a lot of local interest books,
either at book signings or as souvenirs of places I’ve been to. I
made a long list, and emailed The Book Lady, my go-to used book
store, to offer them the titles if they’d like to try to re-sell
them. Surprisingly, they were delighted, so I donated two boxes of
books. I hope some reader or local history collector will want to
have some of the ones I parted with. I still have a lot of books,
mostly used ones that I’ve purchased for book club. These are not
special, and I’ll probably take them to the Goodwill - - but
another day.
My
friend June moved to her new house on January 1, and I went over to
see her this week. The house is adorable! It’s just the right
size for her and the dogs. She’s thrilled with it, and even happier
to be out of MP. I can’t blame her there (this week the security
gates broke AGAIN, and the dumpster wouldn’t compact so a new one
had to be ordered – is this a great place or what?). And the best
part is that the new house is within walking distance of the home
where Jimmy is living; it’s easy for her to visit him any time she
wants. I’m delighted for her.
I
attended a lecture at TLC about Sea Turtles. It was given by the
program chair at Georgia Southern University, so it was not the group
I know from Turtle Camp of a few years go. It was so nice to see the
videos of the hatchlings scrambling to get to the ocean. That never
gets old.
One
of the nice days, I went out to Wormsloe Historic Site for my daily
walk. (The Y is beginning to bore me). I also met Kay twice on the
weekend to walk. She had to work late Friday and couldn’t meet me
for a drink, but we met at Forsyth on Saturday morning to walk there,
and also to go to the Farmers Market. Sunday morning, she met me at
BC when I opened the Visitor Center, and we walked to Greenwich
together. It’s always nice to be with her.
