Weekly Update 7/3/2022
Wimbledon Wimbledon Wimbledon – all week. And not much else.
I did get to City Hall on Tuesday, and to Green Square on Thursday. But there was no DH on Wednesday. Since I don’t have a lot to write, I thought I’d post an article that I found in an old magazine while I was at City Hall. It was from Colonial Homes Magazine, May 1981. DH has changed a lot since then! The white marble mantle that is shown in the drawing room is now in the office, and that’s where it originally was located. The dining room in the article is the office, and there isn’t a photo of the family dining room that we have now. There is currently a fake cloth cover in the hallway, not the hardwood floor. And there are no draperies today, only blinds. And a huge difference is that there was no wallpaper in the 1981 article. The renovations that were done in 2000 – 2001 tried to make the house more authentic to what the Davenports would have been familiar with, and much that is shown in the magazine is not from the 1820s. Since I’ve only seen it since the restoration, the old photos looked very strange to me.
I’ve begun to read The 1619 Project. It is like preaching to the choir, but I find it interesting. I also ordered several books from Thriftbooks, my go-to online bookstore. One is for a book future book club meetings, and the others are just because I want to read them.
I wanted to pick blueberries this week. They are only available for u pick on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It rained all day Friday, and I watched too much morning tennis to get to the farm early Saturday. By then the berries had been pretty much cleaned out. And I was terrified that I might see a snake. There has been a lot of mention about copperheads and other venomous snakes that are around this time of year. I was looking at my feet as much as I was looking for plump berries. I didn’t get too many, but I’ve got some in the freezer now. Perhaps my u pick berries days are behind me, and I’ll have to be content with ones from California that for sale in Publix.
I finally got to see Kay again. Between her family visiting last weekend, and my sickness that weekend before, it’s been a long time since we last got together.
But the biggest news: Adrian is going to be a Big Brother in February 2023. They are thrilled, and I’m happy for them. (There’s also an adorable video of him trying to catch a toad)
