 Update 1/31/2021

My iPad has been having issues lately. It is not charging, and it has trouble holding a charge. I’ve tried the easy route: buying new charger cables, but it didn’t seem to help, and the problem was getting worse. IPads are quite inexpensive now, so I bought a new one. I can not be without an iPad, With assistance from Lisa in Wales, I was able to transfer all my apps to the new iPad. But I wasted a lot of time this week getting it all organized.

I had a zoom lecture about The Antebellum Kitchen from DH on Tuesday. It was interesting, especially because it focused on how DH is going to be interpreting the kitchen when the renovations are complete. They are doing a lot of research to get it right, and they shared that with this zoom meeting.

I walked with Jane at Daffin Park on Monday. It was a very pleasant day. I haven’t had time with just Jane in a long time, and the weather was wonderful. On Wednesday afternoon, I met the Old Lady Group at Creekside for a glass of wine. They are all terrifically concerned about getting the vaccine, and I just kinda sat there. On Thursday, I met Jane, Helen and Vicki at Panera Bread for a nice lunch. So, I’m still getting out.

I was still thinking about all the fears that the Old Ladies have. And, as I was driving back from lunch on Thursday, I got a voicemail from my doctor’s office that said I was in the high risk category, and that I should call right away to set up an appointment. I was in the car, but I called as soon as I got back home. I got another recording that told me that the slots had all been filled. OK, since I wasn’t convinced this was the right thing for me to do, I wasn’t too upset. Later, I received another message urging me to call for an appointment. It took all afternoon – lots of busy signals and then on hold for 40 minutes after I got through. I finally talked to a real person, and I’m scheduled to get my first dose Monday next week, and then a second dose two weeks after that. I think I was influenced by the herd MENTALITY, not herd IMMUNITY, of my friends. I probably would not have actively pursued getting the shot, but since it fell into my lap, and I can’t really come up with a good reason NOT to get it, I’m scheduled. I don’t believe this will prevent me from spreading the virus should I get it, but it will prevent me from getting a serious case of the “flu”. Masks will still be required for a while.

Another food truck came to AP this week on Friday. The scheduled truck from the Bayou Cafe wasn’t able to keep the date, but the Naked Dog, who visited a few weeks ago, took up the slack. I really liked the hot dog I got last time, so I went again. People who don’t live alone don’t understand that hot dogs can be a treat – I never buy a whole pack (who wants to eat 8 hotdogs???). But to get a good one, with great toppings (last time I got the Reuben dog, this time I got a Slaw dog) is a nice treat.

Saturday, I went back to the Savannah Children’s Theater. Its been more than a year since I’ve been there. I used to go every chance I got because I think it’s wonderful. What the dedicated adults teach the children, not only performance, but behind the scenes, getting along and valuing what everyone contributes, nurturing talent in many forms, is so amazing. I always liked supporting this group. They finally put on a show. Many precautions for safety were taken, and even the actors wore masks. I hope this will continue, as I’ve missed it terribly.

Update 1/24/2021

And so an amazing season ends. It was a great run, and I was proud to be a Bills fan.

The weather turned a bit warmer this week, and it was at least sunny most days. I met Roseann on Tuesday to walk at Lake Mayer, I met Kathryn on Wednesday at Daffin Park, and I walked at AP three times. I have to get back into this routine. I also met Jane and Helen for lunch Thursday. We went to Barnes, a barbecue place that Jane and I had been to before and enjoyed. And I enjoyed it again. So, I got out quite a bit this week.

I tried to sign up for the vaccine, but didn’t have any luck. I called both my doctor and the Chatham County Health department, but neither are scheduling any more appointments. I guess I waited too long. But I still think there are people who would benefit from a vaccine more than I would, so I’m not very disappointed.

On Thursday, Juliet Lloyd created a live FB concert. Amazingly, I didn’t forget this time, and I watched. I was able to “cast” the concert and watch on my tv. That was pretty cool! I really liked that she had a Bills cap on her shelf in the background.

Kay came over on Saturday. It was nice enough for us to sit on my porch and visit (and eat and drink – Bloody Marys). We chatted for a while, and also took a little walk around the “pond”.

Update 1/17/2021

Continuing with the post office issues, I guess this is what has to happen for me to get my mail:

Of the three zoom meetings I had on the calendar for this week, I only was able to log on to two of them. I think I’m getting stupider as the years go by. I did “attend” a wonderful lecture of clothing styles and trends in the first half of the 19th century. And, although not a “meeting”, I zoomed with my brother, sister and nephew Sunday after the game.

I’ve been bingeing on YouTube. This week I watched the Smothers Bothers – I’d forgotten how funny that was – and some old Password games. I obviously have too much time on my hands, and don’t read enough good books!

I ate out several times this week. On Monday, I met Mike at Olive Garden. We did that a couple of weeks ago and apparently he really enjoyed it. So we did it again. Kay and I met at a barbecue place in Pooler, Jim and Nick’s, and had wonderful stuffed baked potatoes. There was a food truck at AP on Friday, The Naked Dog, and I had a reuben hot dog – very nice indeed. We may be in the midst of a pandemic and political upheaval, but I’m not going to starve.

Almost as amazing as the Buffalo Bills win over the Baltimore Ravens, is the fact that my Christmas cactus is blooming! A hundred million miracles are happening every day!

Update 1/10/2021

My friend Barbara moved from Savannah to Gainesville Georgia on Friday. This has been the plan for while, and I’m sorry to see her go. We met at Foxy Loxy on Monday for a final cup of coffee and wish each other See You Later, not good by.

I voted on Tuesday. In the general election last November, I stood in line for early voting. For this run off election, I waited until election day and went to the polling place in person. I would have been out in five minutes, but the card I was given to insert into the voting machine had not been deactivated after the prior voter had used it. After they assured themselves that I was NOT voting twice, I was able to vote. I was out in fifteen minutes.

I did little else all week. I was not motivated to go out. I watched a lot of playoff games and was was mostly pleased (or apathetic) about the outcomes. I’m happy the Bills were able to hang on to a game that should not have been that close, and I do wish Brady would lose.

Update 1/3/2021

Buffalo had two great wins this week! They beat New England on Monday night, and Miami on Sunday afternoon. Play offs – here we come. I really really wanted to go to the bar today to watch the games, but decided that since I’ve been able to get this far through the season without going for wings and a Miller Lite, I could probably do one more week. It wasn’t worth the risk. And it did not matter to the outcome of any of the games. I hope that next year, I won’t have to make these choices. Now I can take this off my refrigerator.

There was another visit from a food truck at AP this week. I got a brisket bowl, and it was pretty good. I like that I don’t have to go into my kitchen whenever a food truck is scheduled.

One of the presents that Ishy sent for under my Christmas tree was a nutcracker jigsaw puzzle. When I put all my holiday decorations back in storage, I was going to put it in the box and get it out next year. But I opened it and I’m working on it. I may be working on it until next Christmas!

On New Year’s Eve, I didn’t do anything. I stayed up until midnight, but I’m ALWAYS up at midnight, so that wasn’t a big deal. Someone was shooting off fireworks, and I think they might have been in the parking lot by building 20, They didn’t last long, and I have an idea that someone from management got over there and told them to knock it off. Kay came over on New Year’s Day, and we sat on the porch, sipped wine, ate snacks, and talked. I am one of the many who is delighted that 2020 is over. But, as always, be careful what you wish for.
