Weekly Update
8/23/2015
The lunch bunch met at
the North Beach Grill on Tybee Island on Monday. It was raining, so
that made it impossible to spend the afternoon in the sun at the
shore, and many of ladies who had said they were coming didn't show
up. But the ones of us who did get together had a nice luncheon.
Connie's husband, Jim, joined us. He's the chef at 17 Hundred 90,
and when I was talking to him, he called it The 90. I like it! I
think I'll start calling it that too.
Tuesday, I had an
appointment to have the car serviced. Last week the odometer flipped
to 80,000 miles, so I needed to have her looked at. I left her at the
Goodyear Station, and walked back to the condo. They called with the
bad news: there's quite a few things that are worn and need
replacement. It's cost over $1,600 and I didn't get her back until
Wednesday. But what can I do? I need to have wheels.
Three new dumpsters were
installed at MP. There's one for trash, one for recyclables, one for
cardboard and newspapers. The next day, the one for paper was
removed, so there's now only two. I don't know if it'll come back or
not. The door to the garbage part of the dumpster is so high, short
people like me can't reach it, so a rope was added to help pull down
the door to allow us to insert trash. It will take a while for all
the bugs to work themselves out and I'm hoping this will be a step in
the right direction.
DH was really slow on
Friday. I usually do four tours, but no one was there, so I only
gave two. It's really boring to sit and wait for tourists to show
up. I didn't go to The 90 (see, I'm calling it that) after DH, but
just went on home.
I did it again. I
“watched” the Bills / Browns game on the phone on Thursday as it
was being played, and then I watched the replay on tv the next night,
How depressing is that I watch games that are terrible, and don't
mean anything, and that I know the outcome of, just to see my Bills.
It's been a long off-season.
I went to the pool
Saturday morning, and stayed until it got too crowded for me to enjoy
it. I spent the rest of the day napping, eating, watching tv, reading
- pretty boring. So Sunday, I was determined to at least get out a
little bit more. The pool was too crowded right from the minute I
walked in the gate, so I didn't stay. I went out to the Walmart for
a few things that I need, and then to Target. At least I wasn't just
sitting in my chair. When I got home, I started to make myself some
shrimp and grits for supper, and then checked my voicemail. Both
Mike, my downstairs neighbor, and June, my rummikub player friend,
had left messages to invite me for supper! My shrimp was happily pan
frying, so I called to decline both invites. I did, however, go to
spend some time with Mike and his daughter Moira, and later with
June, Jim and a new resident in Bldg 9, Tom. How did I get so
popular??? And why???
It's been tropical here,
with late afternoon thunderstorms most afternoons all week. I
thought the clouds were ominous this afternoon, and snapped a photo.
They were really darker than this picture shows, but the shapes were
interesting.
Why?!?! Because you're fun, interesting, caring, good sense of humor and a good friend! xx
ReplyDeleteI echo Lisa's remark above - in fact, that was the first thing I thought of when I read that part of your journal just now! We are going to visit Carlo and Karen and they are going to teach us how to play Sequence, which I think is one of the games you say you play. If I can remember how to play it when I come visit you, then we can play!
